| It's about 6am, I've already been up thirty minutes and had breakfast (spaghetti and some strawberries). And I am nervous as hell. Or at least I'm thinking spaghetti wasn't such a good idea.
Uggggh. 3.5 hours to go.
| Tour of KC tomorrow. Never been so worried about a race ever. Probably because I know the course and know my weaknesses. I'm just hoping to not finish last with my stellar climbing skills...
Dinner tonight with the KC Velo folks, good time. But I have to get up at 5:30 and I just had coffee, such a bad idea.
| It's hotter than hell, and guess who is heading to Lawrence for her last team ride. Me. | | |
| Friday night I went to Jessie's and we went on a ride with Rebecca- she is really strong and is looking at joining the team, but isn't sure if she wants to join Velo Tek or Boulevard, because Boulevard has a mountain biking team and that's what she is really in to. But it would be awesome to have her on the team. She was one of the ones that halped me out in the last Twilight Crit so I could get the points and win. The ride went well, just did one lap of the loop then went back to Kansas City and tried to make up a crit course. We made up a 1/2 mile one that goes around the Main/69th street area. Pretty low traffic and there is only one stop sign and one round about. I think we're gonna try it out tonight with Jeffrey. Should be fun to race somebody who I know has a better sprint than me. Most of the girls either don't want to sprint or attack, or just aren't good at it. So if I do it with the girls I just have to sit up eventually because nobody will do anything. But you get the Shipey's and Jeffrey with you and they will hunt you down and attack you. It's a lot of fun, but I'm always tired as hell when it's all over because it's just attack after attack.
Tour of KC this weekend- should be fun.
| Another great day for a ride. I got up this morning and cleaned up my old Trek to possibly sell, but in my rush to go to the doctor/pick up Jessie/get to Lawrence, I forgot it. We ended up getting to Lawrence about two hours early, so we went to Cycle Works and hung out for a bit then went to Greg's. We ended up showing up at the course 30 minutes late, and pissed Jeffrey off. Which sucks because Jeffrey is a cool guy, and I don't like pissing people off whose opinions I value. Anyway, first race I got like 4th, second race i got 5th, and in the overall standings I was in 3rd place by like two points. I was told the last race would be a three lap points race, which looked to be in my favor since I have more of a sprint than the others, but we get to the line and they tell us it's a Mad Russian...or something. Eight laps, and I had to start in the back. We had a bit of a strategy going on though that Jessie and Rebecca would work for me, so we were gaining ground pretty fast. Last lap I took off and I think ended up making up the time on everybody but one, and I dropped the 2nd place girl after three laps or so. So I got the points I needed and ended up beating the 3rd place girl by 6 points and I took second. It was a lot of fun, and I'm kinda sad that I will be leaving so soon and won't get to see my team much. But the season is basically over minus a few TT's and the Tour of KC. I'm afraid I won't find anybody at MU to ride with that is at the same level as me, so I will have to ride alone. Let's face it, the guys will probably be a lot stronger than me. So it will be a long winter--lots of alone riding, and probably a lot of work on the trainer. But I'm going to come back next season with some climbing skills, and get my sprint to be more explosive, hopefully. Right now I'm fairly confident in my sprint against a lot of people- including guys. But I won't be able to surprise anybody. My sprint kinda builds up, so if somebody jumped quick enough they could pull me in. I gotta work on that.
It's weird that it's August and I'm thinking about the off season, or should I say my first season of cross. But lots of hard work and time, and probably some pain and frustration, and next season I will be back.
